Comparison Research Thumbnail Data

Educational comparison is deeply complex, and this data is obviously for basic comparison purposes only.

  1. Saves schools an average of 240 hours per year:

Assumes three teachers in 3rd grade spending 30 hours on multiplication proficiency instruction and 30 hours on grading, prep, and follow-up. Also assumes 3 teachers in 4th grade spending 10 hours on each of those tasks. If your hours invested differ significnatly from these, please let us know!

  1. Increases proficiency 243%

Timez Attack's built-in assessment requires perfect proficiency for every player. Allowing for 5% of students with severe learning disabilities, we then compare that with the 39% national average of 4th grade math proficiency. The effect of multiplication recall on the "Proficiency" rating by NAEP is certainly open to speculation, but our perspective is that fluency, rather than simply basic famliarity, is integral to success with Numerical Operations required by the Proficiency standard.

  1. Boosts Self-Confidence 31 %

This data came to us from a research project done by a team of educators and researchers at Brigham Young University. Please see the full report here. This calculation was based on the experimental groups pre-test and post-test reponses to the question, "I can learn new multiplication facts easily." By comparison, the group that worked with a highly-skilled teacher boosted their responses a mere 2%.

Multiplication Tables
  1. Classroom Instruction Cost of $7,200 per school

Multiplies average teacher hours from above by national average teacher salary of $30. $30 * 240 = $7,200. One could argue that teachers are not actually paid for grading, prep or follow-up, but we've included those hours here. One could also start factoring the overhead cost per teacher of administration, buildings, and technology infrastructure. We are NOT including any of those costs.

Multiplication Tables
  1. Tutor Comparison

Research has shown Timez Attack to be just as effective as a skilled teacher, so we multiply the average cost of a tutor ($40) times 100 students, times the projected average hours necessary for total mastery (10 hours). So $40 * 100 students * 10 hours each, compared with the free version of Timez Attack, up to the Deluxe version.
